Top 5 Healthy Breakfast Ideas

I have very little time in a morning, trying to walk 7 dogs, feed 3 cats and get ready for work will do that to a person. Most mornings I just grab a bowl of cereal, so I thought I would try a bit harder and eat a little bit better first thing.

Here's my top 5 healthy breakfast ideas;

  1. Overnight oats: Combine rolled oats with your choice of milk (dairy or plant-based) in a jar or container. Add toppings like fresh fruits, nuts, seeds, or a drizzle of honey or maple syrup. Let it sit overnight in the fridge, and in the morning, you'll have a delicious and nutritious breakfast ready to eat.

  2. Greek yogurt parfait: Layer Greek yogurt with fresh berries, granola, and a drizzle of honey or agave syrup in a glass or bowl. Greek yogurt is high in protein and calcium, while berries provide antioxidants and fiber, and granola adds crunch and extra fiber.

  3. Avocado toast: Toast whole grain bread and top it with mashed avocado. Sprinkle with a little salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes for flavor. You can also add toppings like sliced tomatoes, a poached egg, or smoked salmon for extra protein and nutrients.

  4. Egg muffins: Whisk together eggs, your choice of vegetables (such as spinach, bell peppers, onions, or mushrooms), and a sprinkle of cheese. Pour the mixture into muffin tins and bake until set. You can make a batch ahead of time and reheat them for a quick and easy breakfast.

  5. Smoothie bowl: Blend together frozen fruits (such as berries, banana, or mango) with spinach or kale, Greek yogurt, and a liquid like almond milk or coconut water until smooth. Pour the smoothie into a bowl and top it with sliced fruits, nuts, seeds, and granola for added texture and nutrients.
